Good. Food. Stories. Potluck: Links from Around the Web

Before you head out for the Memorial Day weekend, here’s a little potluck to keep you satiated for the next few days. Think of it as a layered sandwich of news, much like the official GFS Memorial Day mascot of Chicken Parm Sandwich with Mozzarella Cheese Sticks (it’s in my self-imposed contract to post this photo once a year, don’t you know):

  • I’m now a contributor over at Slice, Serious Eats’ pizza site, where I’ll be filing regular reports on the best pizza I can find in New Jersey. Hey, tomatoes are one of the many vegetables (er, fruits) that give the Garden State its nickname. Why not use them for tons of pizza sauce?
  • Last month, I sat down with Autumn Giles of the podcast Alphabet Soup to talk about pastrachos (that’s pastrami nachos to you) and other foods I eat when watching baseball, the genius of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and my less-than-impressive collegiate food adventures.
  • Speaking of baseball, in honor of the start of the season, I pulled together a batch of Fritos ballpark toffee for Bluebonnets & Brownies’ Fritos Friday series. If you see this amped-up Cracker Jack at Citi Field next year, please let them know they owe me a royalty check.
  • Finally, if you’re looking for a little literary diversion, Good. Food. Stories. contributors Tessa Barber and Rebecca Peters-Golden have founded Crunchings & Munchings, a site dedicated to devouring and reviewing young adult books. I’m an eater and reader; I can’t even have a bowl of cereal without reading the King Arthur Flour catalog that happens to be on the table, so give these smart gals some love and keep your brain fed.

    1. Hmmm… I know Memorial Day weekend is typically the start of swimsuit season (whatever that is; we freelancers don’t often put on swimsuits since we’re always at the computer), but maybe we should start calling it Elastic Waist Pants Weekend instead. Let’s try to make it catch on!
