Good. Food. Stories. Potluck: Links from Around the Web

Ever wake up and the first thought that pops into your head is, “Gee, I haven’t read nearly enough of Casey Barber’s gloriously descriptive prose this week—do you think she’s written anything else this summer?” If this highly unlikely scenario has happened to you, then you’re in luck. I’ve done a number of pieces for different publications around the web recently, and am more than happy to share them with you:

  • Drink where John Cusack drowned his sorrows in High Fidelity, have lunch with Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago, and marvel at Charlie Trotter’s movie debut with my cinematic tour of Chicago at Reel Life With Jane. Bonus points to anyone who can remember how Lucy likes her hot dogs in While You Were Sleeping.
  • The Green Mill, Chicago

  • Chocolate? Check. Pecans? Check. Bacon, bourbon and fudgy frosting? You decide how much is too much with these incredibly rich brownies at Bluebonnets & Brownies.
  • From caprese strata sandwiches to mini huevos rancheros to pancakes so fluffy you’ll never believe they’re made with whole wheat, I’ve got ten make-ahead breakfast recipes at iVillage. It’s enough to keep me away from the cereal bowl for a day or two.
  • caprese strata sandwich

  • And if we haven’t convinced you strongly enough at Good. Food. Stories. that Blood, Bones & Butter is worth a read, I give my two very satisfied cents with a review of Gabrielle Hamilton’s memoir at A Traveler’s Library. Just thinking about the book makes me crave a burger at Prune.

That should keep you occupied for at least an hour—try to stretch it out if you’re killing time before your last summer Friday rolls around.

And if you’re so inclined, like Good. Food. Stories. on Facebook and follow me on Twitter so you’ll be one of the first to know about these bonus stories (or so you can egg me into making late-night trips to Barnes & Noble). I love every single one of your comments and conversations.
