In the spirit of the holiday season, here’s an early gift from me to you (well, I’m doing it in the selfish hope that it inspires you to buy for yourself and others; isn’t that the American way?): a sneak peek at a few images from my forthcoming cookbook, Classic Snacks Made from Scratch: 70 Homemade Versions of Your Favorite Brand-Name Treats. [Side note and grammar lesson of the day—yes, it’s spelled “sneak peek” and not “sneak peak,” unless you happen to be describing a mountain with a devious attitude that likes to creep around like a ninja.]
Aw, look at those plump little goldfish. Look at the jaunty lion stalking the gator cookie. Don’t they inspire you to click over and pre-order a copy from Amazon, or Barnes & Noble, or
Indiebound (which connects you to your local independent bookstore)? Those of you who pre-order (from Amazon, at least; I can’t confirm the shipping habits of other outlets) will most certainly get your copy before the official on-sale date of February 12, so you’ll be able to wrap up a book in time for Valentine’s Day. Believe me, nothing says “I love you” more than homemade Hostess cupcakes. Ask my husband.
If the tease of adorable animal crackers or cream-filled homemade Hostess aren’t enough, don’t listen to me. Listen to someone as cool as Momofuku Milk Bar‘s resident genius Christina Tosi, who thinks the book’s got “a sense of humor, nurture, and flavor” and that it “embraces the spirit of any good American palate with a DIY sensibility.” How’s that for a thumbs-up?
And stay tuned to Good. Food. Stories. in January for details on the Classic Snacks book tour, which is coming together as we speak. I’ll be visiting New York (both Manhattan and Brooklyn), Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Antonio, and Austin for signings, snack parties, and demonstrations this spring and summer.
Finally, as a little whipped cream (or marshmallow topping) on the sundae of news today, if you missed any of my coverage and commentary on the recent announcement that Hostess Brands is liquidating, here’s a link roundup:
